tortoise and the hare

i met up with my friend dana this morning at 6AM in wauwatosa. he’s the guy who busted a 2:57 at the Green Bay Marathon this past may. judging from the title of the post, you can likely figure out who’s the tortoise and who’s the hossenfeffer. regardless, we eased out down the trail and made our way south into west allis then through greenfield park to the new berlin recreation trail. we headed west down the trail until we had covered 7.5 miles then turned back.

on the way back, the sun was awful hot which made me glad i didn’t complain too much about starting the effort at 6AM. we stopped for a quick drink at greenfield park then rolled back up into wauwatosa. overall, we mustered 15 miles at an average of 8:05 pace and called it a day. there are only ten weeks to go until the lakefront 26.2.

for the week, i ran a "straight" of sorts with runs of 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 (plus today’s 15) for a total of 50 miles. (i must be subconsciously getting jazzed about our upcoming vegas vacation)

i usually look at the 12 weeks of training leading to the marathon as an indicator of success. if i can tally over 600 miles in that timespan, i subsequently have qualified for BOSTON. so far, here’s the weekly mileage breakdown…

wk 1 – 52 miles
wk 2 – 50 miles

MTD – 160.5 miles (5 days left in the month to reach my goal of 200)
YTD – 1,086 miles
Odometer – 27,424 miles
