wednesday wobble

this morning i took it easy and ran 5 miles at around 8:40 pace. it was cold today…all of 7 degrees and a north wind. about the most significant thing that happened was getting a piece of rock salt in my shoe with a half mile to go. needless to say, it was uncomfortable at best.

heat wave

it’s amazing how 20 degrees feels warm. winds shifted to the east this morning so i headed into the wind to start the morning. i ended up with 7 miles in a little over an hour. it was less slippery than yesterday but still left much to be desired.

weekend wrap up

saturday the temps and wind were a bit much so i headed indoors and ran 2 hours at the pettit with Dana. we ended up dodging alot of slower people that didn’t have the courtesy to move to the outer lane, but ended up getting in a solid workout. it makes it much easier to run in circles when you’ve got someone to talk with. i guess misery loves company!

sunday i forced myself out the door and ran 7 miles at 8:20 pace. admittedly, i felt pretty beat up from the effort yesterday. temps were in the mid teens and had some wind to deal with.

overnight it snowed another inch or two of the light flaky stuff. i headed out with my trail shoes instead of my Yaktrax…which i think was a mistake. for the most part, the plows hadn’t touched the roads i was running on and it made for slow running. the good thing was that the temps were in the low 20’s…which felt really comfortable compared to what i’ve had to run in the last few weeks. i ended up with 7 miles at 9:30 pace…which is very slow.

So Far, So Good, So What

looking at the first 3 weeks of the 12 week cycle for Boston, i ended up with 62, 52 and 57 miles respectively. (starting the "week" on Saturday and ending on Sunday…normally i start the week on sunday and end on saturday but because BOSTON is run on a monday…)

over those 3 weeks, i ran on 20 of the 21 days and mustered a mix of long, medium and quality efforts throughout. looking at my miles versus other training cycles that resulted in a fast marathon time, i’m right in line with where i need to be at this point.

FMAO – Froze My @ss Off

this morning i ventured forth with clear skies and a bright moon in the sky. the temperature was all of zero and there was a west wind. i ended up with 6 miles at eight minute pace and called it a morning. admittedly, it was a very nondescript run. sometimes, that’s just the way it goes.

i’ll be headed indoors on saturday for a long run. i considered running an 8K race but i think a long run fits better with what i’m aiming for in 9 1/2 weeks.

maybe he’s born with it

i skipped running last night on the treadmill. i had a long day and just figured i’d head home. the last time i took a day off from running was jan 20th.

i headed out this morning and ran 7.1 miles at just under eight minute pace. weather.com said it was 0 degrees with a NW wind at 15mph. on the drive into work, i heard -2. regardless, it was cold. i could feel the sweat on my eyelashes freezing as i headed back home. i got in the door and looked in the mirror only to find that my eyelashes looked like i was wearing white mascara! i never had such volume!

all kidding aside, as much of a drag as running indoors or on a treadmill is…it’s not any better freezing your @ss off. it does look like the temperatures will moderate next week…which will help.

oh yeah, i noticed that i rolled 24,600 on my odometer. i should roll 25,000 in the next 7/8 weeks.
