monday morning

today i headed out for an easy six miles. temps were in the mid 20’s and winds were still from the west. my legs were still tired from the previous two efforts. i stepped on the scale and was at 158 lbs. more than likely i’m a few pounds light due to not being fully hydrated from yesterday’s effort.

weekend wrap up

hope you like the new look of the blog. it took me long enough to figure it out. i’m still a rookie with this PHP stuff.

saturday afternoon i headed out with temps in the mid 20’s with cloudy skies and a brisk northwest wind. i managed 12 miles at 7:48 pace, which was pretty good considering the conditions and the amount of gear i was wearing.

sunday afternoon it was sunny but the temps and wind was pretty much like yesterday. to start off, i ran the same 12 mile route as saturday then came home to get some dry clothes on (and make a "pit stop"). i then headed out for another 6 miles bringing the total to 18 for the day. it took me just a little less than 2:30 so a little under 8:20 pace.

it’s now 6 weeks to BOSTON. i could be further along, but i could also be further behind. for the first 6 weeks of the 12 week training cycle, my weekly miles have been 63, 59, 52, 50, 50, 50 for a total of 324 miles.

the next 3 weeks are especially important to stay healthy and get in more 18-20 milers.

TGIF

wednesday i didn’t run. even though i was officially at 199.5 miles for february, i felt lousy and didn’t feel like running.

thursday i got in a slow 5 miles over lunch. midway through the run i put my foot into a slush puddle which was very unpleasant.

this morning i got in a slow 5 miles. the recent snow/slush really makes for slow running, especially early in the morning when you can’t quite see icy patches.

i’m feeling closer to 100% now. hopefully this will be the end of the virus. there’s only a little over 6 weeks until boston now. i’m going to have to get in some solid training in march if i hope to run to my ability in mid-april.

MTD – 10
YTD – 411
Odometer – 24,750

More Hamster Miles

last night my throat was "en fuego" so i skipped the morning run and brought gear to run indoors, if i felt up to it. by noon i was doing OK so i ran another 5 miles in 40 minutes on the treadmill. this afternoon i’m coughing up junk which is usually a sign that i’m almost over whatever i’ve had.

i think with today’s effort i’m over 200 miles for the month and over 400 miles for the year. at the moment, i’m just trying to get in some miles without over-doing it so i can get healthy. hopefully i’ll be good to go by the end of the week so i can start running some 18-20 milers.

left turn running

saturday afternoon i opted to head indoors at the pettit center. i managed running for 90 minutes and admittedly didn’t feel all that great. the nice thing was that jim schmidt was there and he handed me my 1st place plaque for the Badgerland Striders club championships (Long Series ~ 30-34).

sunday’s weather was awful. temps in the low 30’s with sleet, slush and a gusty wind. i headed back down to the pettit and ended up with a reasonable workout. i warmed up for the first two miles and then dropped down into a marathon pace run (6:50-7:00 pace) for a total of 10 miles. the overall pace was in the low 7:00’s.

monday, at noon, i hit the treadmill for 5 miles in slightly under 40 minutes. it felt good to work up a sweat.

i’m still struggling with a virus that doesn’t want to go away. i’ve been achy, feverish and had a sore throat for over a week now. hopefully it’ll pass soon.
