Lakefront Discovery 15K Run

Only 27 days after running the Lakefront Marathon, the last competitive event of the year is hosted by the Badgerland Striders. The Lakefront Discovery 15K Run starts at the War Memorial along Milwaukee’s lakefront and heads north along the lakefront up to Lake Park. This year, they wound us through Lake Park then down the bike path used for the 20K and then over toward the finish line area of the Lakefront Marathon. We then ran south along the lake, behind the Milwaukee Art Museum and past Summerfest to the finish.

Conditions were sunny and low 40’s with a gusty wind from the North/West. Overall I was pleased with the effort as I ended up at 1:01:08. My PR for 15K is 59:52 set in September of 2004. Being only 76 seconds off my PR with the wind, and being 4 weeks after running a 26.2, was reasonably satisfying. To top it off, with today’s effort, I clinched 1st in the Badgerland Striders Club Championships Long Series in the M30-34 age group. Next up…the Chicago 50K.
